Last weekend I put new Shimano R501 wheels on, a new cassette and a new chain. The bottom bracket was a bit clunky but I couldn't work out how to get into it so it stayed as it was.
On Friday night I gave the hack its first outing and did about 16 miles. It was dark, fairly cold and very wet on the ground but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Again tonight, it was only 5pm but very dark when I set off. I hit the lanes and pretty quickly was lost in my own world. There is something nice about cycling in the dark in the country.
I reached the ford near our cattery and it turned out to be a bit deeper than it was on Friday. I had my feet at 3 and 9 o'clock but they still got soaked. Probably didn't do my new wheel hubs any good!
The riding was fun, but you had to watch the road ahead due to the amount of wet leaves, mud, twigs, small branches and other debris. There were loads of deep puddles and the worrying part of them is not so much the water, but the risk of what might lie below.
I did just over 22 miles tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Hopefully I can keep up the night riding for the next few months.
