Last year was memorable due to the biblical conditions; hopefully this year will be memorable for other reasons.
I've booked my hotel - the same one as always - just need to get fit enough to do it justice.
Great news, I have been accepted for the Prudential RideLondon 2015. That means I have been lucky 2 years out of 3 in the ballot and on the other year I took a Charity place.

Yesterday I did my second race of the year, the third of the 4 race Woolly Mamil series at Stourport. For the first time, I got a good start - (no clipping in issues; nobody standing on my shoe and taking it off) and was right in the pack. It was quick but manageable and there were rest slots as we approached the bends. Of course there followed short hard sprints which is what I think I need to train now.
I stayed in the pack for a few laps but slowly slipped off as the sprints became harder. I found myself in a group of 3 for quite a while - one guy from Performance Cycles (Trev and Gemma's team) and number 86 I think. Just ahead of us was the guy from Das Rud Klub Bristol who I recalled from 2 weeks earlier. There were a handful behind us as well, none of which caught us. We stayed together for quite a while and passed a couple of pack dropouts who had presumably blown up. After a while, no 86 pulled away so I zipped past Performance bikes bloke and caught up with him. PB was unable to stay with us which was a bit harsh as I'd been sat on his wheel for quite some time. At 27.30 the pack caught us. I jumped in and stayed with them for a couuple of laps, leaving no 86 and Das Klub behind. The 5 laps to go board came out just after 30 minutes and as I had been lapped, I pulled in after another lap. PB, 86 and Das Klub carried on, so I am unsure if they changed the rule about coming in if you had been lapped. The race finished with the usual fizzing of wheels and raised arms. Some of the riders were pointing back to the hairpin and the first aider shot off in his car. As we rode back we saw a rider on the ground - looked like a collar bone gone. So, a freezing cold day but an enjoyable race. I felt again that with a bit more intense training, I could live with the pack. Onwards! :) |
