After a while I got back on 2 wheels, unfortunately not as fit as I had been in April. Notable rides were:
RideLondon (again) which was reduced in distance due to the biblical weather conditions. I hadn't got in the ballot so I did this one for WaterAid. I went off too quick and struggled the last third - but still did a decent average speed.
The Tour de Fujitsu - which took in some of the Tour de France route. As we rode through Huddersfield I saw a few riders ahead in Team kit - as I caught them I saw they had Omega Pharma Quickstep gear on. They weren't going over fast so I went past them, with Darren Wrintmore who I was riding with. We had to stop at some lights and as I looked around, I found myself eyeball to eyeball with Mark Cavendish - it was only the whole OPQS team out testing the route before they rode it for real. After a bit, they picked the pace up and went past us. We sat on the back for a few miles before they dropped us. Brill.
Tenerife, Mount Teide - we went on holiday to Tenerife twice this year and my beloved gave me a cycling pass for most of the days. I really enjoyed riding up Mount Teide, the highest point in Spain. I didn't get to the top as that would have needed the best part of a day, but I got a fair way up. The weather was stunning as were the views. Lovely. One day I'll do the whole thing.
Overall it wasn't a high mileage year, I did a total of 3434.3 miles, 3,061 on the road and 373.3 on the turbo. Not great against my target of 5,200. I'll keep the same target for next year.
Here is my Strava year end video!
